Hope launches DH version of PRO 5 hub

Faster engagement and several major improvements in durability mark the arrival of the 5th generation of Hope's legendary mountain bike hubs.

Hope launches DH version of PRO 5 hub

Last year, Hope updated its mountain bike hubs from the PRO 4 to the PRO 5. The revision provided a hub with a faster drive, due to a greater number of engagement points; from 44 to 108. A "zero drag labyrinth seal" was also introduced, the aim of which was to reduce drag on the drive mechanism. In addition to these improvements, the shape of the hub has been updated to be more rigid, with space to accommodate larger bearings for greater reliability and durability.

There is now a DH-specific hub designed for a 7-speed cassette. The 150/157 DH hub has a wider flange spacing than the standard PRO 5 150/157 hub for 10/11/12-speed cassettes, further increasing the strength and rigidity of the machined aluminum hub housing. Hope claims that the wider spoke support angle, combined with equal spoke tension in a symmetrical rim, makes the complete wheel as strong as possible.

The hub accepts only a 6-bolt disk and has 32 spoke holes.

Unlike most of the PRO 5 range, the DH version offers only 54 POE, due to the fact that the 6 pawls engage simultaneously with the 54T ratchet. This also applies to the eBike-specific PRO 5 hubs, a step taken to improve durability in this higher-torque application.

PRO 5 DH hubs are now available from Hope distributors.
